Musical Tastes

I like music of all genres, but lately I have been listening to "modern" country. What exactly does this mean? Am I getting old and mellowing? Hard to say if it's means anything.

My mp3 collection is a hair under 6000 songs and ranges from Alan Jackson to White Zombie with everything in between. My current iTunes play list is about 265 songs (1.24 GB) and includes Dr. Dre, Eminem, Sara Evans, Wagner (Ride of the Valkyrie), Richard Marx (hat tip to the 80's), Lonestar, Elvis, Depeche Mode, U2, Barenaked Ladies, Pearl Jam and even Ricky Martin (duet with Christina Aguilera).

Sometimes I will be listening to the whole collection (which includes selections of my wife's) and I have to laugh and ask myself what the hell was that song (like my wife's fascination with Nsync)? Anybody else finding their musical tastes changing or mellowing with age?

I must admit that I am totally "old school" on the music thing - no MP3, just CDs. I just got 8 more!

Los Lonely Boys
Damageplan - New Found Power
Joe Satriani - Is there Love in Space?
Frank Zappa - We're Only in it for the Money
The Best of Mountain
Santana - Abraxas
Living Colour - Vivid
Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast

HA! Beat that play list! Modern Country, HA!

I'm much the same way in that I enjoy most forms of music. I enjoy rock, country, blues, classical etc equally. Personal fave is jazz.

I can play some Duke Ellington, follow it up with the sounds of Metallica then close out with a little Charlie Daniels and enjoy it all.

The only exception is rap. I detest rap! YUK!

I have found that my musical taste has mellowed with age, but keeps expanding, if that makes sense. I am a true music lover, I can't even think in terms of genre any more.

But that doesn't mean I don't still enjoy some heavy metal now and then. Sometimes, you just gotta rock.

GMTA -- I was just going to blog on this very issue, no joke. I too have been lately finding myself accidentally (e.g., overhearing someone else's radio) listening to "modern" country, and not thoroughly despising it. Several nights ago, it was the only station I could tune in clearly, for some reason. I found myself starting to nod my head to the beat, join in singing some of the choruses...great ten-gallon hats-o'-fire, I was actually enjoying it! No! I'm too young for that! And I'm a CITY girl, fer cryin' out loud!

Next thing you know, I'll start calling eveyone Darlin' and draping a bandana around my cat's neck.

Thanks to all for your comments. I have come to the conclusion that I am just becoming more open minded in my old age, lol

I have always liked all genres of music but am really into modern or contemporary country at this moment in my life. My husband rolls his eyes whenever I have it playing but you know what!? He has Rascal Flatts, Toby Keith and Tim McGraw on his playlist on Windows Media, so I don't want to hear it from him! LOL I am seriously in danger of starting to say Y'all to my friends who will most likely not be my friends anymore if I do it! One friend said I have a serious addiction to cowboys in tight jeans! Lord I'm in deep. I even sat for 4 hours last night and watched the CMA's, preshow and all. I even posted an entire page on it over at my blog, parkerswife.blogspot.com, yep, addicted. It starts off with one song, then one artist and soon your getting up in the morning and putting on CMT instead of Good Morning America. AAggghhhhh!
